ABUSE
I work with all types of abuse including sexual, emotional and physical. I have also worked with victims of Modern Day Slavery, Domestic Abuse, Adverse Childhood Experiences and Cohesive Behaviour. All types of abuse can be scary and distressing for a person to experience or witness. Counselling can help you to work through the trauma, gain understanding that whatever happened to you is not your fault and help you rebuilt your sense of worth. I will give you a safe space in which to grow.
Bereavement and loss
A bereavement is a huge change to your life, even if it was something you expected. It can be traumatic, stressful and painful. It can bring feelings and thoughts that you never expected. We can also experience grief from the loss of a relationship, for example, a divorce or a friendship ending. Redundancy can also bring feelings of loss and uncertainty. In current times, due to COVID 19 we may mourn how our way of life has changed. Counselling can help you as you go through the stages of grief to ensure that you have the support you need as you work through all the different emotions involved
I also provide pet bereavement counselling if you have lost a much loved companion.
Depression
Please take a look at the link on my website ‘I had a black dog, his name was depression’. It is a short clip that is a visual story of what it can be like to live with depression. being lost in depression can be a scary, lonely and distressing place. It can take over your life and damage your relationships leaving you feeling alone, isolated and misunderstood. Counselling can give you a safe space where you can be heard and supported. It can help you to manage the ‘black dog’ so you are in control and able to make connections again.
Relationships
Relationships can often be difficult and challenging. The issues a couple might face in their relationship such as work, debt, children, infidelity, infertility and life in general can challenge - to even the strongest of relationships. You may be having difficulty in communication or you may have fallen into a way of behaving with each other that is destructive. As a counsellor I will work with you both to enable you to start hearing each other again, to listen and support each other and to improve your way of relating. I will offer you a safe place to which you can bring what want to explore.
Sometimes a couple will seek counselling at the end of their relationship and counselling can support them through the process of separation.
Stress
Please take a look on my website at the short clip about stress. Stress plays a massive role in a lot of people’s lives and it can have a negative impact on your well-being. Stress can be present in many areas of our life; family, work, relationships, finance, health or COVID fears and the uncertainty That brings. Signs of being stressed are feeling over whelmed, ‘snapping at people’, insomnia or drinking or smoking too much. It can even impact on your eating habits. This can all have a physical impact on your mind and body. Counselling can provide you with an outlet for this I will give you a place where you can discuss and work through the factors that are causing you to feel so stressed out.
Low self esteem
People often come for counselling because they have very low self worth. You may not feel ‘good enough’. This means that you hold back from being your true self. You may lack confidence and this impacting on you in several areas of your life. This can often be the result of their what they have experienced, either growing up, or in a relationship. It may be the result of bullying or abuse for example. Counselling can help you to start to believe in yourself again. As a Person Centred Counsellor I believe you can become the best version of yourself.
